The morning started nice and bright but soon clouded over and about 0900 it started to lightly rain. Plenty of boats were moving though, in both directions.
We got underway after 1000 and immediately joined a queue at the first lock of the Buckby flight. By the time we got to the front there was just us, but a hire boat turned up behind us so we had somebody to share with.
The first pound had the Anchor canal goods shop and as we had to wait a while Helen had chance to have a quick look around. When we got to the front of the queue again we had to swap partners again.
The West Coast Main Line crosses the flight after the third lock with the Virgin Pendelino trains whizzing past., just not when I am taking a photo! It had almost stopped raining by now.
Once again we changed partners and headed down lock 10 with just the three last ones that are close together, ahead.
By the time we got to the top of the last lock we had caught up with Capt. Mainwaring from yesterday. He was moored just out side the lock above, leaving nowhere for the boats leaving to go. He could easily have moved up to the next lock but chose not to. Rather than just sit in the lock and block its use, as he seemed to want us to, I went to moor ahead of him where there was space. He didn't seem to like that, but soon let go and moved up chuntering something about he told me to stop as there was a boat coming up the lock! He went on his way rejoicing I'm sure. I like the cottages at the bottom lock. By now the rain had started coming down more heavily again.
Anywhere else this flight would be very pleasant but with the M1 running one side and the railway the other it is just a place to get past quickly.
We continued on to Weedon and moored up. After lunch the rain had grown light again and we decided to wander down and check out the Antique centres. We came out with a corner 'what not' for my daughter and a small glass jelly mould with an anchor motif on the bottom/top.
