We were aground when we got up and this didn't get better as people from the moorings at Woolhampton descended the locks. Just as we were about ready a boat came up and had to empty the lock above us. This meant that there was then enough water to float us off and away we went. It was dull and a little drizzly but we didn't get wet as we moved about 1/2 mile, through one swing bridge and to the visitor moorings above Woolhampton lock.
After lunch we went to look at the village over the canal swing bridge and the railway level crossing. The old corner shop had some expensive looking clobber in but was a fine old building.
We crossed the road and bought some milk at the village shop and were tempted by some scotch eggs for lunch. The Falmouth Arms is being converted into apartments and the Angel looked like an eating place.
On the other side of the road was this very fancy drinking fountain erected as a tribute to Queen Victoria's Diamong Jubilee in 1897. 'Righteousness exalteth a nation'. It wasn't eworking.
This is the canal swing bridge form a different perspective to that which we usually see them. It is a good job it works well as it gets used very often.
A nice cottage next to the railway but a bit close to the swing bridge perhaps and near to the level crossing and pub also.
When we got back the sun was shining so I set to to wash the st'bd side as it was the first time we have been along side a hard bank for a while. I then did the windows in side and out, touched up a bit of rust here and there and sanded and repainted the short plank. By then it was time for tee as we were going out later. Helen had spotted that the Mikron Theatre Company were performing at the pub, out door tonight and as luck would have it they were doing 'One of each' a story about the history of fish and chips! We had seen the other play they are showing on this years tour, Rising Agent', about the WI in Dewsbury the day we got aboard the boat on 1st April to start this years voyage. They were very good once more. The four actors are very multi talented singing, acting, playing varied instruments and a wealth of accents with very little props and no microphones etc. It was a great story. We thought that they had lost weight since we had first seen them. They had done an afternoon performance today too.
Their boat is moored just by the car park of the Rowbarge pub. They don't charge for entry at their shows but charge you to get out. There is no set fee but a suggestion of £12 each but will take what ever you give. If you get a chance to see either of the shows they are well worth it and we had a great night despite it being a little windy and getting chilly towards the end.
