We had a very peaceful night and once we got going we found that our mooring was much nicer than the one marked in Pearson's just near Curdworth Tunnel.
Curdworth Tunnel is only 59 yds long but as you can see there is the dilemma of who is going to reach it first and who is going to give way. I thought I was the nearer so continued. Fortunately the other boat agreed and slowed down for us to pass through.
The Birmingham and Fazeley is surprisingly rural, at least until Minworth that is. There are few hedges too so there are distance views. The massive Severn Trent sewage works can hardly be seen, and I didn't smell it either!
The tow path has been tarmaced and we found several gangs of volunteers picking litter along the tow path and casting hooks looking for shopping trollies. They didn't find any it seems. How ever the bottom seems quite close to the top on this stretch if you stray off the line too much. We stopped at Minworth Services and emptied the loo. That is only twice in over two months now. We took the opportunity to top up with water too. The noise of the M6 and Spaghetti Junction drew nearer as we got closer to.
Before the Junction we have to pass under a factory held up by concrete beams
I like the way the bow wave mirrors the angle of the beam!
Salford Junction. We are taking the turn under the roving bridge on to the Grand Union or Saltley Cut. The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal turns off between the second and third concrete pillar. Straight on is the Tame Valley Canal to the outer reaches of the Birmingham Canals that we explored last year, and thoroughly enjoyed too.
These are real city Canada geese as they didn't bat an eye when cyclist and walkers passed. They did want to be on the tarmac though as it must be lovely and warm for them.
It is only a few hundred yards from the junction to Star City where we wont be visiting the casino!
The pontoon can take three boats alongside and is on the off side with a locked gate between the pontoon and the car park to Star City. We decided to moor here as we thought we would stop here for the bad weather tomorrow. We will then be able to go to the pictures whilst we await the better weather.
